Current owners Darren and Nicola have lived here for seven years with their family; “we were attracted to the character and authenticity of the place, but more than that it immediately felt like home. It has what can only be described as a special feeling to it, the feeling that makes you really feel at home” says Darren.
The village of Longfield has a good variety of local shops including a Waitrose, whilst Bluewater shopping centre, which is under a five-minute drive away, offers extensive shopping and a wealth of bars and restaurants. The area is served by a good selection of schools – close to hand are Langafel CofE Primary School, Steephill Independent School and Pre-School and Longfield Academy.
Longfield is well located for travel, as Darren explains, “the road links are fantastic; it’s only a very short drive to the M25 and the A2. The coast and Gatwick Airport can be reached by car within 40-minutes. The area has really good rail links too; Ebbsfleet International railway station is only 10mins away and the HS1 will get you to Kings Cross in 17 minutes – the Eurostar also stops here. Longfield’s train station is conveniently within walking distance”.
Please describe the qualities of the house and garden and why you have found them a pleasure/useful: “Both the house and garden are excellent for entertaining and the garden offers a great amount of privacy with the rear looking out over open fields”.
Please describe your favourite room in the property and why: “Our favourite room would have to be the kitchen/dining room as it’s the perfect place to host dinner parties for friends and family. It’s a very social area where people can stand and chat whilst food is being prepared”.
Please describe your favourite aspect of the grounds and surrounding area: “Rats Castle has a good mix of grassed lawn – ideal for children to play – and a great patio area for barbeques. The sun stays in the garden all day long, only going into the shade around 9pm at the height of summer”.
Please describe your most memorable event: “There have been so many memorable events here for our family; from birthdays to the parties we held around the time Nicola and I got married. But for me, the most special of them all was bringing our baby daughter home from hospital to her newly painted nursery”.
What will you miss most and why are you moving? “We will be very sad to leave Rats Castle, but it has given us fantastic memories to cherish. We are moving due to my work relocating”.
